{"id":1874,"date":"2014-06-03T12:59:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-03T17:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entmidwest.fm1.dev\/?p=1874"},"modified":"2022-12-15T13:04:20","modified_gmt":"2022-12-15T19:04:20","slug":"do-i-need-two-hearing-aids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/do-i-need-two-hearing-aids\/","title":{"rendered":"Do I Need Two Hearing Aids?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><u>\u201cDO<\/u><\/strong><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mid-westent.com\/images\/Sandi_sm3.jpg\"><strong><u>&nbsp;I NEED TWO HEARING AIDS OR CAN I WEAR JUST ONE?\u201d<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of our patients ask me this question when it\u2019s time to discuss the purchase of a hearing aid.&nbsp; Some are asking because of the financial aspect of paying for two hearing aids; others ask just because they don\u2019t like the thought of wearing two.&nbsp; Typically my answer is this: If you have hearing loss in both ears, even if one ear is worse than the other, yes, you should wear two hearing aids.<br>Here\u2019s why:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More natural \u2013 you were born with two ears for a reason.\u00a0 This is the way your brain and body work.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More information to your brain \u2013 our brain needs sound from both ears in order to give it more information to process more accurately; in other words, you get better speech understanding and clarity when wearing two hearing aids versus one.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better sound quality \u2013 with sound coming from both ears, you get a sense of balance and require less amplification.\u00a0 This allows for a more natural sound quality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Directionality \u2013 it is easier to tell where a sound is coming from when you can hear on both sides.\u00a0 This is important when trying to listen to speech in a noisy environment, or when someone is calling your name; also when trying to cross the street and listen for traffic.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I will often recommend my patients purchase two lower technology\/cost hearing aids versus one higher level\/cost hearing aid because listening with two hearing aids is better than listening with just one.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that there are circumstances in which I do recommend one hearing aid.&nbsp; This is based on the type and severity of hearing loss as well as speech discrimination scores.&nbsp; Your audiologist will make that recommendation when appropriate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cDO&nbsp;I NEED TWO HEARING AIDS OR CAN I WEAR JUST ONE?\u201d Many of our patients ask me this question when it\u2019s time to discuss the purchase of a hearing aid.&nbsp; Some are asking because of the financial aspect of paying for two hearing aids; others ask just because they don\u2019t like the thought of wearing&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"none","_seopress_titles_title":"","_seopress_titles_desc":"","_seopress_robots_index":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[10],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1874","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hearing-aids"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1874"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1874"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1874\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1877,"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1874\/revisions\/1877"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1874"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1874"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/entmidwest.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1874"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
